Green Valley Park

“Green Valley Park has a lake with relaxing fountains and it borders the Zane Gray Cabin and Rim Country Museum Complex. It also boasts the first fire engine on display!

With lush rolling hills just begging to be rolled down, a large slide & playground with varied attractions for multiple ages, and a wide paved walking path around the lake the park is truly a relaxing, family friendly place to spend time together. Sunsets and stargazing are absolutely stunning here! It was the perfect way to wrap up our day exploring the small town of Payson, AZ.”

Rancho Tonto Catch-A-Trout

“Rancho Tonto Catch-A-Trout is tucked away near Horton Creek in an idyllic and lush green setting in the woods. It is a fantastic way for the entire family to enjoy fishing at whatever pace you choose. Whether you prefer to relax by the water and fish occasionally or want to give kids the thrill of being able to reel in catch after catch, there is something for everyone!

Our kids were so proud to hold up their days catch and even our 1yr. old enjoyed casting a line and reeling in his first fish, with a little help! Exploring the grounds, the tire swing and trees with faces were especially fun entertainment while our fish were packed and placed on ice for us.

The owner is so kind and really cares about the experience that each and every guest is having. If you want to make a lasting family memory while in Payson, this is definitely the place to come!

“We got to experience so much but barely scratched the surface of all there is to discover in Payson!”

Horton Creek Trail

“When I first read reviews about the Horton Creek Trail hike I was unsure if this was at the level of hiking ability of my younger kids and Grandpa Jim. We were all delightfully surprised to find the trail to be well kept and easy to maneuver.

The elevation gains were short bursts evened out with hiking on level ground long enough that we didn’t tire quickly. It was so relaxing to be walking along the creek bed. Everyone we passed was friendly, and the kids love that there were even horses on the trail.

After around 2 miles we found a clearing and crossed over to have a picnic. The kids enjoyed splashing in the creek while the adults relaxed taking in the scenery, and the little one settled in for a peaceful nap. It was a beautiful way to spend a few hours, relaxing away from the hustle of the day.”

Tonto Creek Fish Hatchery

“Tonto Creek Fish Hatchery was such an interesting stop that really shouldn’t be missed. It was neat to get to learn more about how they are working to restock the lakes for recreational fishing. The kids were really impressed with being able to see the trout fish at different stages of life and different sizes. Inside, there were videos along with more educational displays to learn about what really goes on at a fish hatchery. Feeding the fish was the highlight of this stop!”

How Was Your Visit?

“Being born and raised in Arizona, Payson has never come to the top of my “must see” list.

After experiencing all that Payson has to offer I have to say that my opinion has changed completely and we will definitely be returning!

Payson is a true gem in the small towns of Arizona. It felt absolutely idyllic as this small town appeared through the forest! It has all the good features of a small town and offers enough of the amenities of a larger city. The local shops are so quaint and charming, and the pride in ownership is evident at each one.

The town itself has a clean and wholesome feel that makes you feel good about spending time there.
