Highline Trail (Fish Hatchery to FS144)

Hatchery Trailhead - The Hatchery Trailhead is accessible by driving east of Payson on Highway 260 for 16 miles and turning left on Fish Hatchery Road across from Kohl’s Ranch.  The trailhead is located 4 miles up the road.  The Hatchery Trailhead is named for the Tonto Fish Hatchery, just north of the trailhead. This section of the Highline is nicknamed “The Inner Sanctum” for its unparalleled views, multiple creek crossings, and world class single track trail. There is access in the middle of this 20 mile stretch by taking Forest Road 144 off of the Fire Control Road.
